Anniversaries.
2026 is a milestone year for MLC. We celebrate 85 years since our inception in 1941 and Anthony celebrates his 50th year as Musical Director. These are phenomenal achievements.
In June we held our 85th Annual Concert. For this we were joined by Clydach Male Voice and Sarah Meek and the Dave Cottle Trio. It was a very successful concert, well attended and with excellent feedback from the audience. A fitting way to start off our Anniversary Celebrations.
In September we held our AGM and during this Anthony was surprised with a Lifetime Achievement commendation from “Making Music”. This was a thoroughly deserved award, and Anthony was “blown away” as recipient. This was followed by delicious cupcakes made by Tracy to mark the event.
On the 16th of October was our long-awaited Anniversary dinner in Manor Park. To mark the choirs Anniversary, we had a table full of memorabilia, photographs and moments. Just browsing through brought back so many memories of Tours and times gone by.
The highlight of the evening was, however, Anthony’s celebration of 50 years. He was presented with “Barry” the barometer, (he has always wanted one), with an engraved plaque marking his 50th Anniversary, a framed print, a hamper of all his favourite things. Belinda had also expertly compiled a video of tributes which brought tears to our eyes. The most amazing thing was a song with lyrics by Claire and composed with the help of AI. It encapsulated all that Anthony means to us and was a tearjerker. Anthony was again blown away and slightly emotional.
Along with fabulous food and entertainment from the brilliant Porthcawl Ukulele Bandits it was certainly a celebration dinner that will be remembered for years to come.
